The gaming world is buzzing with excitement as FromSoftware, the studio behind Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring, has officially unveiled its latest project *drumrolls please*-Duskbloods. Set to release exclusively on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026, this game promises to take players into an entirely new kind of dark, immersive world.

FromSoftware has a reputation for creating games that are both brutally challenging and deeply rewarding, and Duskbloods looks like no exception. However, this time, the studio is shaking things up in a big way. Instead of a strictly single-player experience, Duskbloods will introduce multiplayer elements in a player-versus-player-versus-environment format, something completely out of the ordinary for the developer.

What Can We Expect from this Ambitious New Game?

To answer simply, expect a Gothic-Industrial World Unlike Any Other! If there’s one thing FromSoftware does better than almost anyone, it’s world-building. Every game they release has an environment so rich and layered that it feels like a character in its own right. Duskbloods appears to continue this tradition but with an interesting new twist.

Based on the reveal trailer, the game’s setting is a semi-gothic, semi-steampunk world—a dark, mysterious land where both magic and industrial technology collide. Players will traverse a variety of stunning locations, from towering Victorian-style cities with gaslit streets to grimy industrial districts filled with massive machinery.

One of the most intriguing moments in the trailer shows a futuristic train speeding through a dystopian city, hinting at fast-paced travel or large-scale battles across different areas. Another clip showcases a jetpack-equipped warrior soaring over rooftops, which suggests that Duskbloods may feature vertical combat and increased mobility, something we haven’t seen much of in past FromSoftware titles.

Duskbloods: A New Take on Multiplayer Combat

Traditionally, FromSoftware games have leaned heavily on single-player storytelling with optional multiplayer elements, such as the invasions in Dark Souls or the co-op summoning system in Elden Ring. Duskbloods, however, fully embraces multiplayer, featuring a mix of PlayerVsPlayer or PlayerVsEnvironment for up to eight players.

While specific details are still under wraps, we can speculate on how this might work. This format suggests that players will not only be fighting against AI-controlled enemies but also competing or cooperating with other real players at the same time.

  • Factions or Clans: Players might have the option to ally with certain groups, leading to large-scale battles for territory or power.
  • Hunting and Survival Elements: Players could be dropped into a world where they must fight off creatures while also watching their backs for enemy players.
  • Betrayal Mechanics: Alliances could form and break at a moment’s notice, leading to tense, unpredictable encounters.

With this studio’s expertise in creating challenging and deeply strategic combat, there’s no doubt that Duskbloods will deliver something thrilling and unforgiving.

Will it be a Bloodborne Successor?

One of the biggest questions swirling around the community is whether Dusk bloods is in any way connected to Bloodborne, the 2015 gothic horror masterpiece that fans have been signing petitions to see a sequel to.

While FromSoftware hasn’t confirmed anything, the similarities in tone, aesthetics, and even the game’s title have fueled speculation. The mention of blood, the dark atmosphere, and the gothic setting all seem to echo Bloodborne’s unique style. However, there are clear differences too. Unlike Bloodborne’s purely Victorian horror vibe, Duskbloods appears to have more steampunk and industrial influences, suggesting that it will stand as its own distinct universe rather than a direct sequel. Regardless, Duskbloods is shaping up to be the closest thing to a Bloodborne spiritual successor that we’ve seen in years.

A Perfect Fit for the Nintendo Switch 2

One of the most surprising aspects of Duskbloods is that it will be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2, which is set to launch globally on June 5, 2025. This means that the game is being designed specifically for the new hardware, which is rumored to feature:

  • A larger 7.9-inch 1080p screen with 120 FPS and HDR support.
  • 4K resolution when docked, making it the most powerful Nintendo console yet.
  • Enhanced processing power, allowing it to handle graphically demanding titles like Duskbloods with ease.

FromSoftware’s decision to partner with Nintendo on this exclusive title is an interesting shift, as the studio has traditionally released games across multiple platforms. This could indicate a strong collaboration between Nintendo and FromSoftware, potentially leading to more future projects.

Duskbloods: What’s Next?

For now, Duskbloods remains shrouded in mystery, but more information is coming soon. On April 4th, FromSoftware’s Hidetaka Miyazaki will be present in a special “Creator’s Voice” article. He will likely reveal more details about the game’s world, gameplay mechanics, and inspirations.

Until then, one thing is clear: Duskbloods is shaping up to be one of the most exciting and ambitious FromSoftware titles yet. With a fresh multiplayer approach, a stunning gothic-steampunk world, and the studio’s signature dark storytelling, this could be a game-changer for both the studio and the Nintendo Switch 2.

So buckle up in your seats as Duskbloods is coming with its promises for another unforgettable adventure
