Anthony and Joe Russo’s The Electric State arrived on Netflix on March 14, immersing audiences in a world where robots have turned against humans, pushing civilization toward a lethal fate. Adapted from Simon Stålenhag’s graphic novel, the film follows Millie Bobby Brown’s Michelle. She unwillingly joins forces with Chris Pratt’s character Keats, a smuggler dealing in rare vintage items on the black market. After an old acquaintance hints that her long-lost brother, Christopher (Woody Norman), may still be alive, they join hands. Herman (Anthony Mackie)
Herman is Keats’ witty robot sidekick, ready to zap enemies with lightning whenever Keats utters their code word, “shock.” He also has multiple model sizes suited for different tasks, including a towering form and a more compact version.
Anthony Mackie recently wrapped up the press tour for Captain America: Brave New World (2024), where he takes on the mantle of Captain America as Sam Wilson, formerly known as The Falcon. He is also set to appear in Twisted Metal Season 2. Mackie’s past roles include Sergeant JT Sanborn in The Hurt Locker (2008) and Harry Mitchell in The Adjustment Bureau (2011).
Electric State Voice Cast: Cosmo (Alan Tudyk)
Cosmo was Michelle’s brother’s favorite cartoon during their childhood, later transforming into a robot as bots became widely adopted. Alan Tudyk, known for his voice acting, has previously brought characters to life in films like Moana and its sequel, Moana 2, where he voices the rooster Heihei.
Mr. Peanut (Woody Harrelson)
Mr. Peanut serves as the voice for robots across the globe, advocating for a sanctuary where they can exist without being forced to serve humans.
Woody Harrelson is best known for playing Haymitch Abernathy in The Hunger Games films, with Suzanne Collins’ prequel novel about his character set for release on March 18. He recently starred as Duncan Allock in Last Breath (2025). She has delivered memorable performances as Detective Marty Hart in True Detective, and Mickey Knox in Natural Born Killers (1994).
Electric State Voice Cast: Popfly (Brian Cox)
Brian Cox lends his voice to Popfly, a baseball-themed bot residing in the robot haven. Despite his peaceful home, he’s willing to take up arms to fight for the freedom of both humans and machines. Cox recently voiced Santa Claus in Netflix’s animated film That Christmas (2024). He is widely recognized for portraying the formidable Logan Roy in HBO’s Succession, as well as Robert McKee in Adaptation. (2002) and Agamemnon in Troy (2004).
Penny Pal (Jenny Slate)
Penny Pal is a dedicated mailbot for the United States Postal Service, granting her access to any property in the pursuit of delivering mail. Jenny Slate is recognized for her voice work in Marcel the Shell With Shoes On (2021) and Alyssa in It Ends With Us (2024).
